All About Sarah

My Background

After leaving university, having gained a maths degree, I first worked in industry as a Business Analyst. I decided to change careers after a few years and retrained as a maths teacher, working my way up the career ladder to Assistant Vice Principal. I love working with young people and it is a job where two days are never the same!

In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors – running (well jogging!), cycling, hiking, swimming (in a pool!) and skiing.

Preparing for Hezzy Life

To resign or not to resign, that was the question…..

Well, to cut to the chase rather than write a long Shakespearean soliloquy, I had to resign! That wasn’t my initial plan as I was hoping to take a sabbatical from work instead. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out and I’m going to blame an unfortunately timed phone call from OFSTED for that. It was a difficult and scary decision to hand in my notice and leave myself unemployed, but we’ve invested so much time, money and emotions into getting ready to leave that there was no other decision possible. Hezzylife had to start in September, job or no job!

Everyone keeps telling me that I’ll easily find work when we get back, and there’s always the option of supply teaching. But right now, I’m not quite ready to give up on the career ladder after all the hard work I put in to get to a senior leadership role. But who knows, after a year of living the nomad life, maybe doing a few months here and there of supply teaching to top up the funds before going off around the world again will be all I want to do.

Time to start getting prepared for the adventure!
